Eligible adult members of The Monticello Community are all those people who are descended from individuals who lived and worked at the Monticello plantation in Charlottesville, Virginia, including enslaved and free workers, owners and family, long-term guests and distinguished visitors. In addition, members may be people with a connection to Monticello through oral history or historical, preservation or literary work. Youth members are those under 18 years old.
Criteria for membership will be as flexible and inclusive as practically possible. If necessary, decisions about membership will be made by a majority opinion of the Board of Advisors.
Dues for members shall be $25 per person or $75 per family unit. A family unit shall be defined as an immediate family all having the same permanent address.
